At the Calgary Couples Counselling Centre, while working with couples is our primary focus, we recognize that relationships impact individual mental health and vice versa. Therefore, we do provide individual counselling for adults and adolescents. In addition to couples therapy training, some of our counsellors have experience working with teens and can provide the support and guidance adolescents need at challenging times in their lives.
Adolescence is a time of significant change and development, which can be challenging for both an adolescent and their family. Counselling can provide a safe and supportive space for adolescents to explore their thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and improve their communication and relationships with others.
Some common issues that adolescents may face include anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, body image, relationships, school-related problems, and behavioural issues. Some of our counsellors are trained to work with adolescents and can provide individualized support to address these concerns.
Counselling can help adolescents by providing a safe and non-judgmental space to express their thoughts and feelings. Counsellors can help adolescents develop coping skills and strategies to manage their emotions and behaviours. They can also provide support and guidance to help teens improve their communication and relationships with others.
Counselling is a collaborative process between the counsellor, the adolescent, and their family. Our counsellors work with adolescents to identify their goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Counselling sessions are confidential, and the adolescent’s privacy is respected. Our counsellors use evidence-based approaches to provide effective and individualized support.
If your adolescent is experiencing emotional distress, behavioural problems, or difficulty coping with life changes, counselling may be beneficial. Contact our practice to schedule an appointment and talk to one of our counsellors about your adolescent’s needs.
Yes, counselling sessions are confidential. However, there are some limitations to confidentiality when working with minors. We recommend that a parent attends at least part of the initial session with their adolescent, at which time the counsellor will discuss these limitations with both parties.
At our practice, we offer several types of counselling services to meet the unique needs of each adolescent. Below are some of the counselling services we offer:
Individual counselling is a one-on-one therapy session between the adolescent and the counsellor. Our counsellors work with adolescents to explore their thoughts, behaviours, and emotions in a safe and confidential space. This type of counselling can help adolescents develop coping skills, build self-esteem, and improve their mental health.
Family counselling involves the adolescent and their family members working with a counsellor to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and build stronger relationships. Our counsellors use a family systems approach to help families work through their challenges and develop healthier dynamics.
If you are interested in counselling services for your adolescent, please contact our practice to schedule an appointment. Our intake coordinator will match you with a counsellor who specializes in working with adolescents and can provide the support and guidance your teenager needs.
At our practice, we are committed to providing high-quality counselling services to support the well-being of our clients. Contact us today to learn more about how we can support your adolescent’s mental health and well-being.
