Katie has worked in a community mental health setting with many different problems and populations, particularly self-esteem, parenting issues, and eating disorders. She then moved to post-secondary counselling, and working with individuals recovering from workplace injuries. Her background in sociology and communications means that she brings an extra perspective for people dealing with interpersonal issues of any type.
Katie approaches therapy as a collaboration between herself and the client. She is open to feedback and believes the client is the expert in their own life. In session, she uses a mix of existential, solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioural, and feminist therapy approaches. This means that Katie focuses on the client’s perspective, considers personal and interpersonal factors impacting the problem, explores goals and possible outcomes with the client, and identifies patterns or habits that may be contributing to the problem.
Katie has completed training in Gottman level 1 and 2 couples counselling, as well as in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
