Dr. Nathan Cobb is a registered psychologist and registered marriage & family therapist, based in Calgary, Alberta, with over twenty-five years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families. His areas of expertise include communication and conflict resolution in relationships, recovering from an affair, family conflict, blended family problems, parenting, depression, stress, anger management, self-esteem, chemical dependence and compulsive behaviors, and workplace issues.

Education

Dr. Nathan Cobb is listed on the Registry for Marriage and Family Therapists in Canada. He is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Cobb earned his doctorate degree in marriage and family therapy in 2001 from Brigham Young University and his masters degree in 1997 from the same program. He completed his bachelors degree in psychology in 1994 from the University of Calgary.

His passion is to help as many couples as possible, to prepare for, enhance, or re-vitalize their marriage.

Professional Bio

Between 1995 and 2001, while completing his graduate studies, Dr. Nathan Cobb held various research, clinical and teaching positions. He provided counselling services in several community counselling agencies in Utah County and taught family science and psychology courses at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College.

Returning to Calgary in 2001, he took a full-time position for five years with Wilson Banwell Human Solutions (now part of Homewood), an organizational health services provider. This position gave Dr. Cobb additional experience in face-to-face counselling, as well as resolving workplace disputes on-site and providing formal chemical dependence assessments for employees of corporate customers.

Dr. Cobb also developed, presented and coordinated workshops and seminars on various topics impacting workplace health, including work-life balance, stress management, communication and conflict resolution, dealing with difficult people, teamwork, dealing with chemical dependence in the workplace and managing change.

Finally, during his time with Wilson Banwell, Dr. Cobb coordinated and provided on-site emotional support and psychological first aid in the immediate aftermath of bank robberies, oil field accidents, motor vehicle accidents, co-worker fatalities, and other kinds of traumatic incidents that impacted the workplace, sometimes in remote areas.

In 2006, Dr. Cobb began his full-time private practice where he continues to work today, specializing in marriage and couples counselling, premarital counselling, and relationship issues, chemical dependence and anger management.
